Michael Hershenson

Principal Architect

Michael Hershenson has thirty-two years of professional experience in residential new construction and remodeling, office interiors, tenant space planning and build-outs, retail stores and office building design.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana (1990), where he was a Teaching Assistant in Architectural History. In 1977, he graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from University of Illinois at Champaign - Urbana, with minors in Philosophy and History. He appears on the University Bronze Tablet, honoring the top 3 percent from each graduation class.

After employment with Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, Ed Raap Associates, and McBride & Kelley Architects, Ltd., Michael launched Michael Hershenson Architects in 1990. The office has won local and national awards for residential design.


Louis Banks

Project Manager

Since joining Michael Hershenson Architect in 2007, Louis has contributed his design and technical gifts to a number of projects, including an 11,000 square foot Italian Renaissance home, a French residence with an interior Basketball court, and a 4300 square foot contemporary Lake Shore Drive penthouse renovation. His knowledge of traditional building proportion and details, as well as his contemporary design abilities, makes him an invaluable asset to the firm. He is responsible for all phases of a project beginning with design through construction administration. Louis earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture from Miami University of Ohio in 2003. Louis has also contributed to the firms of Frank Klepitsch, Goldberg Downey Architects, Paul Janicki Architects, and Hartshorne + Plunkard, Ltd.


Michela Arreghini

Architectural designer

Michela Arreghini joined Michael Hershenson Architects in 2016. As an architectural designer, Michela contributes to a project from the design phase through the construction administration phase. Michela is a graduate from IUAV, University of Architecture in Venice, Italy, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree, and from Politecnico of Milan, where she received a Master of Architecture, Interiors option. Before joining Michael Hershenson Architects, Michela worked as a project assistant for Reale Gest in Milan, where she gained her professional experience in residential design.


Jhon Jacobs

Project Architect and Designer

John is our latest addition to the firm. He brings 30 years of experience as a Project Architect and Designer on residential and commercial facilities. John grew up in Oak Park, Illinois, He received his B.Arch. degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He is a licensed architect and NCARB certified. John has lived and worked in such varied places as Savannah, Georgia, small-town New Hampshire, and Madison, Wisconsin. His tenure includes work at many distinguished firms including Cohen and Hacker Architects, Robbins Architecture, and Burns and Beyerl Architects. Several of his projects on the North Shore of Chicago include award-winning renovations and additions to historic homes. In his spare time, he performs carpentry and finish work on the renovation of his own residence. John has worked with clients throughout Chicago and the North Shore, including Wilmette, Kenilworth, Glenview, Winnetka, Northbrook, Glencoe, Highland Park, and Lake Forest.

Lisa Hershenson

Business Manager

Lisa's experience includes business management and development, human resources in the areas of professional services and retail. She comes with more than 20 years experience of recruiting, HR administration, employee relations, training, customer service and project management. Her role at Michael Hershenson Architects. Ltd. includes managing the administrative and business development functions of the firm. Lisa holds a BA in Business Administration from Augustana College.
