Chicago Renovation & Addition

Contemporary renovation and addition to the historic prairie-style Clark Street Substation by architect Von Holst and Frye. The goals of the project were to preserve the historic front façade as much as possible, bring light into the structure through light wells and atriums, and design the additions so that the essential form and integrity of the historic building would be unimpaired. The renovation uses a number of green technologies and strategies, including geothermal heating, solar domestic hot water systems, green roofing, hydronic radiant floor heating, sustainably harvested building materials, and others.
